Use naming prefix

For each newly created configuration element (CE), make sure you include a standard prefix in the name. Some CE types are assigned default names by the platform.

The actual value of the prefix can be whatever you choose. In order to avoid having too many violations, the comparison is usually case-insensitive. If you'd rather use a suffix, that is possible as well.

For ServiceNow, the following are CE types for which it makes sense to use naming prefixes:

  • Business Rule
  • Client Script
  • Catalog Client Script
  • Data Policy
  • Script Include
  • Notification Email Script
  • UI Action
