Use only allowed character set
Many large multinational organisations settle on English as the default language for naming their Configuration Elements. Even within the English character set, it is often the case that not all possible characters are permitted.
The following is a set of characters which allows for a degree of flexibility while imposing some uniformity:
- letters
a - z and/orA - Z - digits
0 - 9 - special characters
- white space
" " - underscore
"_" - dash
"-" - period
"." colon ":"forward slash "/"
